County Reaches Agreement with Property Owners in Hip Hop Concert Lawsuit

The owners of a piece of property east of Williston that was to be the site of a Hip Hop concert last year have reached an out-of-court settlement with the county agreeing never to hold a music event on the property without proper permits.

The county commission approved a memorandum of understanding with Amanda Micallef Sigler and two business partners to voluntarily dismiss the case against the three in exchange for their cooperation.

Imagine suffering a heart attack when every ambulance in the county was busy with other calls, or the closest ambulance is 20 minutes away. It happens.

Chiefland Fire Rescue is often the first responder on the scene of major traffic crashes and life-threatening medical emergencies in the Chiefland area. But city firefighter paramedics can only do so much without having Advanced Life Support capabilities at the scene. They must wait for ambulances to arrive.

Levy County Commissioners have operated an ambulance service for many years, but in 2011 commissioners took a big step beyond just operating ambulances to establishing a Levy County Public Safety Department with much broader powers.

The Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) has been at the center of many controversies since its inception, starting with the relocation of one ambulance each from Chiefland and Williston to the area of the Levy County Jail in Bronson.

Other conflicts have arisen from the county asserting control of all fire services within the unincorporated areas of the county and sometimes taking control of areas previously served by cities by establishing part-time fire departments that operate only during ..... more
